Thanks so much for your patience – I had a crazy week last week and by the end of it your email was buried.
There are AWG rates for script editing – are you a member (I recommend it)? The minimum rates they recommend are $842 per day / $3,612 per week.
Really, you get what you can get, and that equation = your own market value (reputation and experience) + what the project can afford.
You could charge low base rate then a deferred a portion payable if they get finance at either development or production stage.
EG $50 ph with another $50 payable on finance.
If you want to be nice (and get some credits) and know the project has no finance and everyone is working on spec, you could defer all or a larger portion but sign an agreement with a specified fee payable if the project received funding or makes any money.
If anyone is getting paid anything then you should too.
Always get your credit described in a written agreement, along with payment details. And negotiate this before starting.
If along the way you feel your role has changed – expanded, you should renegotiate.
